Articles to be considered for publication should be submitted:

  • in three hard copies plus 1 copy on computer disk or by email attachment free of any macros or viruses in Word 5 or 6 or RTF, and any accompanying pictures or illustrations, which may be either black/white or in colour, must be provided in JPG/JPEG format

  • Final Versions of accepted articles must be submitted on computer disks or by email attachment free of any macros or viruses in Word 5 or 6 in RTF, and any accompanying pictures or illustrations, which may be either black/white or in colour, must be provided in JPG/JPEG format

  • typed, double spaced lines (including quotations, notes and references), in 12 point font, preferably Palantino or Courier,

  • on one side of the paper,

  • An abstract of about 150 words should accompany the manuscript.

  • As manuscripts are sent out anonymously for evaluation, the author's name and affiliation should appear only on a separate covering sheet.

  • Brief notes about the academic connections and major publications of contributors will be included in Pilipinas. Such information should be provided when a manuscript has been accepted for publication.

  • Manuscripts will not be returned unless a stamped self-addressed envelope is provided by the contributor.

  • The form for notes and references will be that prescribed for the Journal of Asian Studies, except that endnotes will be employed in place of footnotes. Thus, endnotes will be used for explanatory material, while simple references to author's surnames, years of publication, and pages will be in parentheses in the text, with all sources listed alphabetically at the end of the article. For details see sections 15.35 to 15.40, 15.44 to 15.45, and 15.77 to 15.247, The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed., Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1993. Figures should be on high quality paper in india ink for maximum sharpness and as jpg files. Only copies of the figures should accompany the submitted manuscript, originals being retained until requested by the editors.

  • Current email addresses of authors & mailing address need to be provided to facilitate correspondence

  • Books for review and all correspondence concerning book reviews should be sent to Dr. Paul Mathews, Managing Editor, until further notice.

Book and Film Reviews

Pilipinas accepts unsolicited book and film reviews of items published/produced less than 2 years previously. Reviews should be 1,000 to 1,500 words in length. Extended Review-articles may be up to about 6,000 words.
